MY STORY
I am a licensed psychologist committed to providing specialized care to children, teens, parents, and pregnant and postpartum women.
I see clients and families for a range of needs. I specialize in treating anxiety and OCD, including working directly with parents (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions; SPACE).
I also specialize in attachment-focused parent coaching (Parent-Child Interaction Therapy; PCIT) with families of young children experiencing behavioral difficulties and emotional dysregulation.

Education & Training
Throughout my career, I have worked with children and families in a variety of roles and settings, including in public and charter schools as a school psychologist, as an applied researcher, in community mental health outpatient clinics, in hospitals, in college counseling, in therapeutic day treatment, in pediatrician and OB/GYN practices, and in private practice.
I graduated from NYU with a doctorate in counseling psychology. I trained in a variety of settings in New York City, including Fordham College Counseling Center, Beth Israel Hospital, and Mount Sinai Hospital. My training included both short- and long-term therapeutic services, group therapy, and psychological and neuropsychological assessment.
I completed my pre-doctoral internship at Aurora Mental Health Center, where I provided clinical assessment and clinical services to children and adolescents in an outpatient clinic, a pediatrician practice, and an adolescent day treatment program. I also completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Aurora Mental Health Center, where I specialized in early childhood and perinatal mental health. As a postdoctoral fellow, I worked in the Early Childhood and Family Center providing outpatient therapeutic services to children birth to five years of age and their families. I also worked in an OB/GYN clinic, where I provided integrated mental health to pregnant and postpartum women and their partners. In addition, I provided mental health consultation services to area early childcare centers and preschools.
Prior to pursuing my doctoral degree, I earned my graduate degree in School Psychology from Texas Woman’s University in Denton, Texas, and worked for several years as a school psychologist in Michigan. As a school psychologist, I provided a variety psychological services, including special education evaluations, developed individualized education plans (IEPs) and 504 plans, collaborated with multidisciplinary teams, developed behavioral and learning interventions, conducted social skills training, lead student groups, and consulted with parents, teachers, and school administrators.

My Approach
My approach is integrative and based on empirical research, client and family needs, and presenting situation. Approaches I often use include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment (ACT), exposure and response prevention (ERP), relational psychodynamic psychotherapy, mindfulness, behavior management therapy, Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE), and Circle of Security Parenting (COSP). I maintain a strengths-based stance focused on building resilience and well-being. I work collaboratively with the client and family to define therapy goals and to tailor interventions to their specific needs, developmental considerations, and evidence basis for treatment.
My approach with young children is attachment-focused and sessions are typically parent-focused or dyadic in nature, involving both child and parent. Dyadic sessions are designed to empower parents with the skills to better understand their child’s unique needs, to develop empathetic ways of understanding and supporting their child, and to strengthen the bond between child and parent. With children, parent involvement is essential to achieving treatment goals and maintaining progress after treatment, and parents are often included in sessions and as part of collateral sessions. I often include parent coaching to support parents with developing specific skills for managing behaviors and enhancing their relationship with their child.
I use play-based approaches with children, which is helpful to develop a trusting relationship, facilitate a means of communication and self-expression, and provide a nurturing environment for healing and growth. With teens, I provide individual therapy and/or family therapy, depending on the needs of the teen and the family.
My approach with expecting and new parents is collaborative, relational, and client-focused. I use a combination of insight-oriented and behavioral approaches to increase mindfulness, alleviate symptoms and change old patterns of relating and responding to stressors. I empower mothers to develop skills to parent with increased awareness of their own reactions and emotional experience. I focus on developing a healthy attachment with the infant, strengthening early bonds and helping parents to feel more confident with their skills.
Outside the Office
I am originally from West Texas and I have lived in Michigan and New York, but my family and I have made our home in Colorado. When I’m not seeing clients, I am spending time with my husband, our two children, and our dog, Gus. I enjoy being outdoors, reading, running, and traveling where I can explore new places, learn about different cultures, and meet people around the world. I also serve as adjunct faculty at NYU teaching beginning counseling skills, cognitive behavioral therapy, and program development and evaluation courses to Master’s students in the Mental Health and Wellness and School Counseling programs.
Animal-Assisted Therapy
Gus, my Mini Australian Labradoodle, joined my practice in November 2022. Gus is a gentle, loving, easy-going dog who especially enjoys working with children. Gus works with me in office one to two day a week.
Gus and I have been trained and demonstrated competencies through Pet Partners and I am a member of both the Pet Partners organization and Association of Animal Assisted Intervention Professionals (AAAIP). Please visit these wonderful organizations to learn more about animal-assisted interventions and therapy.
My office is located in Lakewood where I see clients in-person.
I also see clients remotely using a secure, video Telehealth platform. I am able to see clients throughout the state of Colorado or in PSYPACT states (Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Connecticut, Colorado, Delaware, District of Columbia, Georgia, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming).
